SportSTARS is a comprehensive Physical Education and Recreation Program targeting the needs of an increasingly sedentary young America. In a society where diet and activity patterns are the #2 determinant of life expectancy (after smoking), today’s kids must learn from an early age to make healthy life choices.
SportSTARs enables and encourages kids to develop lifelong habits of physical activity and wellness, in order to combat the increasing prevalence of childhood obesity, related health risks and threats to quality of life.
SportSTARs:
• Increases children’s time spent being physically active
• Enhances knowledge and awareness of physical and emotional well-being and health
• Develops positive character traits such as teamwork, cooperation and self-confidence
• Increases each child’s motivation to enjoy and pursue sustained habits of physical fitness
SportSTARS offers an interdisciplinary curriculum, including developmentally-appropriate physical activities, sport leagues and educational components. Lessons help children develop the knowledge, confidence, motor and behavioral skills to adopt and maintain physically active lifestyles. Academic Components promote a comprehensive understanding of the body. Students learn about their respiratory system, anatomy, and the effects of nutrition on the body, for a wide-ranging program that gives kids the skills needed to lead healthy lifestyles.
